Dark Cherry London Fog

London Fogs are cozy, delicious and have only grown in popularity in recent years. The traditional beverage with Earl Grey and steamed milk is an easy tea alternative to a traditional latte or coffee drink. This version uses a bit of cherry syrup to make the drink even more special. The tart dark cherry mingles perfectly with the bergamot and citrus in Earl Grey blends, while the steamed milk adds creaminess to your cuppa. The result is a flavorful, unique beverage that’s perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up!

Ingredients

For the cherry syrup:

  • 2
cups frozen pitted dark sweet cherries
  • 1
    cup packed brown sugar

For the sugar rim:

  • 1
    Earl Grey tea bag
  • 1
    tablespoon turbinado sugar

For the London fog:

  • 4
    Earl Grey tea bags
  • 4
    teaspoons cherry syrup, divided
  • 1
    cup milk

Directions

  1. 1

To make the cherry syrup: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the cherries, brown sugar and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly and mashing the cherries to release their juices.

  2. 2

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain the syrup into a heat-proof jar and set aside.

  3. 3

To make the sugar rim: Tear open one tea bag and pour the tea into a shallow dish. Add the turbinado sugar and stir to evenly distribute. In a second shallow dish, add ¼ cup of water. Dip the rim of 2 mugs into the water, then roll the rim in the Earl Grey sugar to evenly coat. Set aside.

  4. 4

To make the London Fog: In each mug, place two Earl Grey tea bags and cover with ⅓ cup hot water each. Let steep for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and add 2 teaspoons of cherry syrup to each mug.

  5. 5

Add the milk to a steaming pitcher or milk frother and steam as desired. Alternatively, heat the milk in a small pot on the stove to 150 F. Divide the milk between mugs of tea and enjoy!
