Devilish Hot Chocolate

Cayenne adds a surprising kick to this sinfully rich cocoa! Take things up another level by adding your choice of brandy or Irish whiskey. Brandy will give a sweet, nutty flavor, while adding Irish whiskey creates more depth and complexity.

Ingredients

  • 4
    cups milk
  • 3/4
    cup hot chocolate mix of your choice
  • 1/4
    teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/8
    teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/2
    tablespoons brandy or Irish whiskey (optional)
  • Whipped cream, for topping

    In a 2 ½-quart saucepan, combine milk, hot chocolate mix, cayenne pepper and salt over medium heat.

    Heat mixture, stirring to dissolve hot chocolate mix, until steaming hot. Do not boil.

    Stir in alcohol, if desired.

    Divide hot chocolate among 4 mugs and top each with a large dollop of whipped cream.
