Lillet Spritz
June 12, 2024
Lillet (pronounced lil-lay) is an aperitif wine made with Bordeaux grapes and citrus liqueurs, and if you haven’t tried it, you’re in for a treat. It’s mellow and smooth with hints of honey and herbs — perfect in a refreshing, low-ABV summer spritz.
For this clean, crisp cocktail, we use Lillet Blanc as the boozy base and swirl in Angostura bitters, strawberries, tonic water and a twist of orange. The result is a drink with a distinct, almost nostalgic, sweetness and a complexity that sneaks up on you. The first sip sends a fun tingle down your throat. As the initial zip fades, the sweetness bubbles up and settles in the back of your mouth, making you think of the sweet-tart candy you ate as a child. But don’t be fooled: this grown-up drink is full of nuance. The mouthfeel is big and round, the flavors luxurious and layered.
This is an ideal drink for warm summer nights, impromptu happy hours, Fourth of July festivities — or any day that could use some summery vibes.
