Meet Jessie Seamans — General Manager

What does your job entail?
As a General Manager, my job includes overseeing total store operations. I am responsible for the store’s financial performance, customers’ satisfaction, employee relations, store conditions, and so much more, while making sure I’m supporting my team in any way that I possibly can.

How long have you been with the company?
I have been with the company for 19 years. I started at L&B in 2005.

Have you held any other roles at L&B?
I’ve been a Courtesy Clerk, Cashier, Deli Clerk, Store Supervisor/Bookkeeper, Operations Supervisor, Operations Manager-in-Training, Operations Manager, Store Manager, and finally, General Manager.

What do you love most about your job?
The most rewarding aspect for me is working with a team and witnessing others’ successes. Whether it’s winning a contest, a promotion, or another accomplishment, it is so rewarding to see people grow and know that I played a part in their development.

Have you used any of the training, development or benefits options from L&B?
I went through the Manager-in-Training program (now known as the Leadership Readiness Program). I participated in Strengths Finder and 360 Feedback Surveys and I utilized the tuition reimbursement program to earn my bachelor’s degree in human resources and organizational leadership. I’ve also participated in career development workshops and other internal training.

What or who inspired you to pursue the career you have?
The main inspiration for me to pursue the career I have is my desire to continuously learn. I knew very early on that I wanted to explore the Operations Manager career path because I loved the bookkeeping aspect of the role and I also loved helping other employees through their own career journeys with L&B, so it was the best of both worlds. I then went back to school during this time to obtain my bachelor’s degree so that I could further develop my leadership skills. Once I felt like I was ready for a new challenge, I started to work toward becoming a Store Manager, then toward becoming a General Manager. I still learn something new every single day and I love that about my career.

Which accomplishments are you most proud of during your time at L&B?
I have two answers to this question: 1) I was very proud to be voted a Lunds & Byerlys Brand Champion in 2020; and 2) I had the opportunity to represent Lunds & Byerlys and the state of Minnesota at the National Bagging Competition when I was Minnesota’s Best Bagger in 2009.

What is your favorite part about working at L&B?
My favorite part is the people and the relationships I’m able to build with others throughout the company. There is so much knowledge, wisdom and kindness within the company that it makes coming to work very rewarding and enjoyable.

What is your favorite L&B product?
It’s so hard to pick just one, but I LOVE our L&B Signature Cookies, especially the seasonal S’mores and Apple Pie flavors. They are super soft and the perfect sweet treat to end the day.
