Chili con Carne

Ingredients

    pound ground beef
  • 2
    onions, chopped
  • 1
    cup diced celery
  • 1
    green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2
    teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1
    teaspoon salt
  • 2
    tablespoons chili powder
  • 1/2
    teaspoon dried basil, crumbled
  • 1
    teaspoon cumin
  • 1
    tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4
    teaspoon black pepper
  • 1
    14.5-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1
    cup water
  • 2
    15-ounce cans kidney beans

Directions

    In a stock pot, brown ground beef; drain.

    Add onions, celery and green pepper; sauté 10 minutes.

    Add remaining ingredients except kidney beans; cover and simmer over low heat or bake at 325 F for 1 – 1 ½ hours.

    Just before serving, add drained kidney beans (do not drain if thinner consistency is desired); return to heat until heated thoroughly.
