Guava Gimlet

Made with guava juice and Nikka Coffey Gin, this silky sipper is a little sour and a little tart, but never overpowering — and it has none of the astringency that can often put people off gin. While it can definitely be described as smooth and sophisticated, the guava syrup adds a tropical punch that’s both refreshing and a tad playful, making it a great way to end the workday or kick off a weekend cocktail party. Fun fact: Nikka Coffey Gin comes from one of the biggest names in the world of Japanese whiskey and is produced in a limited run of only 12,000 bottles worldwide, so you know you’re sipping on something truly special.

Ingredients

For the guava syrup:

  • 1
    cup guava juice
  • 2
    tablespoons granulated sugar

For the gimlet:

  • Ice
  • 2
    ounces Nikka Coffey Gin
  • 2
    ounces guava syrup
  • ½
    ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Lime wedge, for garnish

Directions

  1. 1

To make the guava syrup: In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the guava juice and sugar. Bring to a low boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook until the syrup has reduced to ½ cup, 4 minutes.

  2. 2

Transfer the syrup to a resealable heatproof container and let cool in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes and up to overnight. Leftover syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

  3. 3

Place a coupe glass in the freezer at least 15 minutes before making the cocktail.

  4. 4

To make one cocktail: Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the gin, guava syrup, and lime juice. Shake until chilled through, 30 seconds.

  5. 5

Pour the cocktail into the chilled coupe glass. Garnish with the lime wedge. Enjoy!
