Ingredients
For the cookies:

1 ½cups unsalted butter, softened

1cup granulated sugar

1cup packed brown sugar

2large eggs

½cup molasses

1 ½teaspoons vanilla extract

4 ½cups plus 2 Tbsp all purpose flour

1 ½teaspoons baking soda

1 ½teaspoons baking powder

1tbsp plus 2 tsp ground ginger

2tsp ground cinnamon

1 ½teaspoons kosher salt

1tsp ground cloves, plus more for garnish

1tsp freshly ground black pepper
For the cream cheese frosting:

8ounces cream cheese, room temperature

¼cup unsalted butter, room temperature

2 ½cups powdered sugar

1teaspoon vanilla extract

To make the cookies: In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in the eggs, molasses, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, salt, cloves, and freshly ground black pepper. Beat until combined. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Heat oven to 350 F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Form the dough into ⅓ cup discs and place them 3” apart on the baking sheets. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the center is set. Repeat with the remaining dough. Let cool completely.

To make the cream cheese frosting: In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract on medium speed until smooth, 5 minutes.
