Mummy Cake Balls
October 24, 2023
Since having kids, I’ve had so much fun making holiday-themed treats for them to enjoy. I think I’ve liked making Halloween treats the most because there are just so many fun things to make! Cake balls are always a huge hit with the kids (and adults!), so this year I made Mummy Cake Balls. Not only are these cake balls super cute and delicious, they’re also easy to make.
To start, make a boxed cake mix according to the directions on the package. I used white cake mix, but you can really use any flavor you like! Once the cake is made, crumble the entire thing up into crumbs. This is a fun chance to get the kids involved!
Next, add a block of softened cream cheese to the crumbs. I like to do this in an electric stand mixer because it comes together super quickly this way. If your kids are already having fun getting their hands dirty, you could have them help mix it in with their hands or a spatula.
I should note: many cake-ball recipes use a can of frosting with the cake crumbs. I have made them this way and find they turn out really sweet with the frosting. Using a block of cream cheese works just as well and the cake balls are just as delicious! Believe me, there is plenty of sweetness from the cake mix and candy coating.
Once the mixture is combined, form it into little cake balls. I place mine on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and stick them in the freezer for about a half an hour. I find they are easier to dip in the almond bark or candy coating (both work) when they are cold. After 30 minutes, melt the almond bark and then dip away! Place the candy eyeballs onto the cake balls before the almond bark sets up.
Lastly, let the almond bark harden and then drizzle the cake balls with additional melted almond bark for that mummy look!
These were super fun to make and the kids had a blast making and eating them! These spooky Mummy Cake Balls are a must-make Halloween treat your kids will love.
